Farm Tours. A guided tour with transport to El Bosque Eco-Farm in Arenal Costa Rica. An interesting look at a loca, workingl farm with sustainable practices. La Campesina tour gives visitors a great opportunity to learn about Cost Rica's most important plants, animals and traditions! Great tour for kids!
The tour starts with a pick up from your hotel. The farm is about 20 minutes from La Fortuna. As you travel to El Bosque Eco Farm through rolling green hills and winding roads, you will get stunning views of the surrounding towns in the Arenal area.
At the farm you will be introduced to your local guide who will give you an introduction and some interesting history about family farm. You will then start the tour by observing a variety of animals - such as donkeys, water buffalo and cows. As well as some more exotic ones such as marmosets. The majority of the animals are an important part of this farm and help to sustain the farm.
You will then walk through the farm on easy trails to see fruit trees, pineapples and other plants such as medicinal plants.
Learn a little about the the native medicinal plants of Costa Rica, such as sleep aids and plants well known to ease stomach problems. After the medicinal gardens you will visit a the green house where all kinds of vegetables grow. These are used in your lunch and make up a large percentage of the restaurant’s food.
The tour also visits the Trapiche, a traditional method of making sugar cane juice. You can try the pure sugar cane drink produced, as well as the strong but delicious fermented version.
On the farm you will pass by beautiful birds, such as peasants and peacocks, You may see other animals such as deer.
Finally! Everyone loves to visit the pigs, especially children. There seems to be a litter constantly born so chances are you will get to see babies pigs as well, a firm favorite of the younger visitors!
You will then make your way to the restaurant where you will enjoy a buffet of food right from the farm complete with handmade tortillas, vegetables and fresh Costa Rican coffee.
You can also choose another package for an additional cost so that you have the option of planting a tree and receive bimonthly update on the trees growing progress. A great way to learn and for everybody to leave their eco-friendly mark in Costa Rica.
