Early Afternoon. Volcano Hike and Hot Springs:
Guided hike 1.5 - 2 hours with lots of stops, on safe trails with the best possible views of Arenal Volcano. The vegetation along the trail is relatively new and you will see many pioneer species of plants and trees. Note though.. that it is more than 6 years since lava activity has been seen, however, the Volcano is very much active (you can sometimes still hear it rumbling and see small clouds of vapor rise from its cone) and on a guided tour you will learn all about the Volcano's fascinating history.
The hike is mainly along easy, flat terrain, the sparse vegetation can allow better glimpses of wildlife like colorful lizards and wild turkeys. As you approach the lava fields, be prepared to hike up one flight of steep stairs (less than 5 minutes). On clear days, what awaits is a spectacular view of the Volcano on one side and Arenal Lake on the other side. You will have the chance to experience walking on the uneven and rocky lava fields (good walking shoes recommended!), literally the cooled lava from past eruptions. Your guide will describe the eruptions of the past and point out interesting geological formations.
After the night hike we will take you to Baldi Hot Springs where you can soak any aches away from the past few days’ activities. Located near La Fortuna, these Arenal hot springs is a place where you can really relax and pamper yourself. Baldi has a series of pools and hot springs fed by Arenal Volcano which are set amid glorious tropical gardens so that you can relax in the water, while enjoying the surroundings. The pools vary in temperature, from the temperature of a swimming pool to the warmest at around 39C (102F). It's a place where, on a clear night, you can sit in a warm pool, sipping the cocktail of your choice.
NOTE: BALDI HAS QUITE A PARTY ATMOSPHERE SOMETIMES SO IF YOU WOULD LIKE A QUIETER HOT SPRINGS WE CAN UPGRADE THIS TO ANOTHER HOT SPRINGS (this will have an extra cost).
